How To Send Money To Nigeria From Usa

How it works

Sending via USD Cash Pickup

For Senders:

  1. Upgrade your app - Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download the latest version of Sendwave.

  2. Add a new Nigerian recipient - Make sure you select 'Cash  Pickup' and that you enter your recipient's legal name and correct mobile phone number. They'll need to show official identification so be sure the name matches. We'll communicate with them via SMS so be sure their number is correct!

  3. Enter the amount you want to send or your recipient to receive - Click Send! This part has not changed.

  4. Confirm your transaction - Review the details, then enter your password to confirm the transaction.

  5. Let your recipient know that funds are on their way - As soon as you confirm the transaction, we'll send you and your recipient two SMS. One with the voucher code, the other with a one time password for the transaction. They'll need to take both these codes to any Access, Zenith, Fidelity or GTB Bank to pickup the cash. They do not need to have an account with any of the banks to collect funds.

  6. If you need help, we're here for you - Call us 24/7 at:

Make sure you take your mobile phone (the one where you received the two codes) with you. You do not need to have an account with any of the banks to collect funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why can't I select USD Bank Account when I try to add a new recipient?
To send to domiciliary accounts, please make sure your app is updated to version 04.07.02. You can update your app directly from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. If you're not sure what version of the app you have, you can check your app version on the bottom of the 'Me' page.

  2. What is the fee to send to Nigeria?
For users in the United States sending USD to USD, the fee will be 1%. This is for transfers to domiciliary accounts or for USD cash pickup. For users sending from Europe, the United Kingdom or Canada, there will be no fee to send to USD :)

  3. How secure is sending via USD cash pickup?
Just like when sending to Naira accounts, security is a top priority for Sendwave. We've added two ways to help ensure the security of your transfer, on top of our existing security. When you send a transfer, you and your recipient will receive a unique code for the transaction. You both will also receive a one time password for the transaction. Your recipient will need to take those codes to any Access, Zenith, or Fidelity Bank branch and present it to the bank teller. Once the bank teller verifies their identity, they'll be able to collect the funds.

  4. How long will it take for Cash Pickup funds to arrive ?
The unique code voucher and one time password will be sent to your recipient within moments of you initiating the transfer. They will then need to visit any Access, Zenith, or Fidelity Bank branch between Monday through Friday 8 am - 4 pm WAT to collect the funds. The funds do need to be picked up within a 7 days a of the transfer being sent.

  5. What information do I need to send to a recipient for USD cash pickup?

We hope that at some point in the future, we will again by able to send to Naira accounts. However, at this time we do not know when or if it will be possible.
